As we grow, we are charged with new and more responsibilities. There comes a time when we have to choose the people who stay in our lives, and for a lot of us, the failure to do so ends up shutting people out who want to be there for us, laugh with us, cry with us, and love us. It's funny how we take those people for granted. We put on a facade in order to impress people who could care less, while we turn our backs on those who care for us the most. We tire of those closest to us because we expect them to be there no matter what. We take out our frustrations on them when we're down because we know they'll always come back; but then we ignore them when they're hurting because we're too wrapped up in ourselves. Why is it that the loyal friends are always the first to be deserted in a time of trouble? It's because we get tired of what's always been there and decide to move on to "new things". We're human and we make mistakes; but it takes a truly courageous person to hold on and fight. Take a step back and look at who has always been there for you. Don't bail on them. Appreciate their efforts, and enjoy the fact that they choose you, and that they want to be a part of your life. As others fade with the wind, treasure the few that stick around. New people will always come and go in and out of your life. But as new things come, don't forget about the special people who always have and always will be there.
